Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about string art generation

High-contrast portrait photos work best. Images with clear distinction between light and dark areas will produce the most striking results. Close-up photos of faces, especially black and white portraits, are ideal.
The default of 288 pins works well for most projects. More pins (up to 360) will give you finer detail but make the project more complex. Fewer pins (200-250) create a more abstract, simplified result.
The string art algorithm is computationally intensive and runs entirely in your browser. Large images or high pin/line counts can overwhelm your browser's memory. Simply refresh the page and try with lower settings or a smaller image.
After generation is complete, copy the numbers from the text area. Save them in a text file. You can paste them back into the generator later using the "Load Saved Pattern" button.
Physical creation time depends on the complexity of your pattern. A typical 288-pin, 4000-line pattern can take 6-12 hours to complete. Take breaks and work in sessions for the best results.
While the generator assumes dark string on a light background, you can experiment with different colors. Dark colors (black, navy, dark brown) typically work best for contrast and visibility.
